Sugar Reduction: The Evidence for Action

During the last week of October 2015, Public Health England (PHE) published a report on the ruinous health effects of sugar consumption. The project started in June 2014 when PHE published ‘Sugar reduction: Responding to the challenge’, which set out what PHE would do to review the evidence across a broad range of areas and identify those where action is most likely to be effective in reducing sugar intakes.

The current report presents the findings from this review and an assessment of the evidence-based actions to reduce sugar consumption.
